Real Life Quest Heroes

Heroes do not only exist in movies and books, but they exist in real life too! Here are some examples of real life quest heroes.

Cathy Freeman

Cathy Freeman, former Australian sprinter, is considered a real life quest hero. Her call to adventure was the athlete championships. Her parents, who are also her mentor, encourage her to run. Freeman faces many tests including the Commonwealth Games, athletic competitions and the Australian National Championships. The ordeal she confronted was the World Junior Athletic championships. The rewards she gained were  Gold medal at the athletics championships, first aboriginal athlete to win a commonwealth game gold medal, Australian National championships and the World junior Athletic Championship. Her ultimate reward was the Australian of the year award, (youth) in 1998.

Jackie French

Jackie French, an award-winning Australian author, is an example of a real life hero. Her journey begins in her ordinary world where she is living in a shed and needing to register her car. The call to adventure is the need for money and French accepts the call by writing her first children's book, Rainstones. French's mentor is her editor who gives her guidance and support. Her greatest enemy is dyslexia and although her first book was the "messiest, worst spelt manuscript ever received," French goes on to write amazing books. She has many allies, including the children who are fans of her books. French's original goal was money but she receives much more. Her ultimate prizes include book awards, becoming a best-selling author, becoming editor of The Wombat Foundation and winning the Australian of the Year Award.
