The Hero's Journey can take the form of a film or movie. Here are some examples of how movies follow the Hero's Journey.
Lilo and Stitch

The Ordinary World - Lilo's ordinary world is Hawaii and Stitch's is Experiment 626.

Call to adventure - Lilo is sent away. The problem is that Lilo will be taken from her sister Nani. Stitch crashes onto Earth.

Refusal of the Call - there is no refusal in this film.

Meeting with the mentor - Lilo adopts Stitch and they become each other's mentors.

Crossing the threshold - Stitch crashes on Earth.

Tests, allies, enemies - Lilo and Stitch endure many tests while Stitch learns to become a model citizen.

Approach to the inmost cave - Stitch causes problems and there are threats to take Lilo away from Cobra.

The Ordeal - Stitch learns that he is alone with no family, and Cobra takes Lilo who later runs away. Also, Lilo takes Stitch away after discovering he is an alien. Both heroes are captures and Stitch appears to be dead.

Reward: Seizing the Sword - Stitch wants to be a family and he must rescue Lilo.

The Road Back - Stitch rescues Lilo from the spaceship.

The Resurrection - Stitch and Lilo become a family.

Return with the Elixir - Everyone comes together, the aliens help construct a new house and everyone becomes friends.
Finding Nemo

The Ordinary World - Marlin is excited about his new home and waits for his eggs to hatch. An eel attacks his home, leaving only one injured egg - Nemo.

Call to Adventure - It is Nemo's first day of school and his father is overprotective and afraid of the open ocean. Nemo wants to prove his bravery and goes out to a boat, where he is 'fish-napped.'

Refusal of the Call - Marlin is in despair and hesitates to go after Nemo because he is scared of the open ocean.

Meeting with the Mentor - Marlin meets Dory who, although forgetful, can speak whale and read English.

Crossing the Threshold - Marline leaves his comfortable and safe zone to swim after Nemo. He persistently follows the boat in the wide open sea.

Tests/Allies/Enemies - Marline and Dory encounter many obstacles including the Sharks who claim "fish are friends, not food." They also have to navigate through an underwater mine field. Marline realises that Dory is smart when she can remember and meets Crush, an ally who helps them travel through the currents to get to Nemo. Nemo becomes friends with the fish in the tank where he is being held. The fish help Nemo escape from the enemy, Darla, the dentist's niece who will kill him. Pelican becomes an ally to both Marline and Nemo.

Approach to the Inmost Cave - The fish in the fish tank attempt to save Nemo from Darla by helping him escape. Nemo is flushed down the drain and Pelican thinks that he is dead.

The Ordeal - Marlin saves Dory from the jellyfish but Dory still gets stung in the process and almost dies. They meet Pelican after this, who take them to Nemo only to find that he is 'dead.' Marlin thinks Nemo is dead and swims away after saying goodbye to Dory.

Reward: Seizing the Sword - Dory rekindles Marlin's hope, finding Nemo alive.

The Road Back - After Marlin reunites with Nemo, Dory gets caught in a fishing net which is about to be reeled to the surface. Marlin must face his fear and learn to trust and let go of Nemo. Nemo must show that he is strong and capable despite his disability. He tells to fish to "swim down" and frees them from harm. A 'reborn' relationship is created between Nemo and his father.

The Resurrection - Marlin apologises to Nemo and vows to trust Nemo. He realises his faults and explains that he has learnt his lesson.

Return with the Elixir - Marline and Nemo are back in their ordinary world. The movie ends with Nemo leaving the reef on a school trip. His father is not overprotective or anxious.
